The session will consist of topics relevant and essential to emergency nursing and the care of behavioral health patients. Presentations will include topics such as: approach to the patient, de-escalation of the agitated patient, preventing burnout in yourself, ED approaches to self-harm, and more.
There will also be dedicated time for breakout sessions at the end. These later sessions will provide a more relaxed and conversational environment for you to discuss ways of better managing behavioral emergencies.

Pre-Session $: Epigenetic Leadership: The Intergenerational Ripple Effect of Your Words, Actions, and Behaviors
505-506-507
1:30 PM - 5:00 PM
This reflective, interactive presentation will delve into the role you play in the health of nurses, potentially down to the genetic level. As a leader, you are responsible for meaningfully contributing to nurses' health, wellness, and resilience. After all, healthy nurses reinforce workplace culture, environmental safety, patient safety, and quality of care. Epigenetic leadership is a novel theory developed to emphasize a leader's piece of responsibility in nursing health and wellness, rather than placing the onus solely on individual nurses.
Contrary to the hopes we placed on the Human Genome Project, DNA is not as big of a piece of the puzzle in health, wellness, and resilience as previously believed. Rather, epigenetics, or how that DNA is activated by external factors, is one key to understanding the genetic response to stimuli. Just as you are affected by physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual stimuli in your life, so is everyone with whom you come into contact. The ripple effect you generate through your own words, actions, and behaviors may epigenetically influence others' DNA expression -- ultimately their health, wellness, and resilience. As a leader, you have a responsibility to realize the intergenerational ripple effect you generate.

Pre-Session $: In-Flight Medical Emergencies: A Simulation-Based Workshop
108-110-112
1:30 PM - 5:00 PM
*Pre-registration required. :ding: "Is there a medical professional on board?" We know you can respond to an emergency in your place of work, but what about at cruising altitude? This is a 3.5-hour workshop aimed at preparing Healthcare Professionals (HCP) to become effective responders during an in-flight medical emergency on a commercial airline. It will cover essential topics such as the physiologic stress of flying, the epidemiology of in-flight medical emergencies, the medical-legal considerations of responding, resources available to responders on a plane, and an algorithmic approach to the most common in-flight chief complaints. We will integrate and emphasize important concepts via simulation helping HCP become better equipped in responding to most types of in-flight medical emergencies.

Pre-Session: ENPC, 6th Edition/TNCC, 9th Edition Sneak Peak
205-207

Pre-Session $ - HIRAID Emergency Nursing Framework: Train the Trainer
201-203
1:30 PM - 5:30 PM
*Pre-registration required: HIRAID (History; Red flags; Assessment; Interventions; Diagnostics; reassessment and communication) is the only evidence-based emergency nursing framework in the world. HIRAID provides emergency nurses with an evidence-based structured approach to emergency nursing care following triage. HIRAID was developed with experts and validated in both the simulated and clinical settings with 302 emergency nurses in regional Australia. Read about what HIRAID is, and the significant impact it can have on patient and health service outcomes here .
Led by global emergency nurse leaders, this practical workshop with interactive learning activities and techniques will equip you to implement HIRAID in your ED.
103-105
1:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Pre-Session $: Vent Bootcamp
103-105
1:30 PM - 5:30 PM
*Pre-registration required. Mechanical ventilation is an essential skill for any provider who has advanced airway management as a part of their scope of practice. Following placement of an advanced airway, manual ventilation with a BVM is suboptimal and labor-intensive requiring a dedicated provider to achieve even a basic level of support. Mechanical Ventilation is the great equalizer in both the ED and the transport environment. Through a mix of both lecture and hands-on manipulation of the ventilator this workshop will provide foundational knowledge of mechanical ventilation. Then after we set the foundation, we will utilize lung simulators and case studies to solidify your newfound knowledge and prepare you for your next intubated patient.
